"PARTNERS - it's complicated"

Thursday, April 27, 2017 - Monday, May 01, 2017 - Spalding St Mary & St Nicolas - Flower festival

We have developed a tradition at St Mary and St Nicolas of holding a Flower Festival around the beginning of May which encourages us to reflect and think as well as look and admire.

We have some creative people who have spent the last few months reflecting on the theme for this year, and thinking about some people who found themselves "Partners" in the long story that begins in the Garden of Eden and ends in the Heavenly City.

"It's complicated" could describe a wide variety of different relationships. How we relate to another person can be the greatest source of joy in our lives and the worst sort of misery. The closer we are to someone the more extreme may be our experience.

The Bible has many examples of complicated relationships, few of which conform to an ideal. Rather than see that as a problem, for those of us who take the Bible seriously it is better to recognise it as an opportunity to learn more about ourselves and about God. Maybe he doesn't have a problem with "It's complicated", and maybe we should learn to accept that people and their relationships have always been complicated.

There will be displays of flowers and artefacts that are the outcome of reflection on two people whose lives ran in parallel for a time and who found a connection between them. We will look at the world through their eyes and to see how it was for them, so that we can share what they have seen and understood.

Dates and times: Thursday, 27th April: 10am-5.30pm

Friday, 28th April: 10am-5.30pm. Refreshments all day. We welcome Beauvale Ensemble at 2pm.

Saturday, 29th April: 10am-5.50pm. Bric-a-brac sale and refreshments all day.
7pm: "An Evening of Music with Cottesmore Military Wives Choir". Tickets £10, available from the South Holland Centre (T: 01775 76 47 77;

Sunday, 30th April: we welcome the Revd Alison Cox as our preacher at the 10.30am Parish Communion. 12 noon-5.30pm: church open, with refreshments.

Monday, 1st May: 10am-5.30pm

West Lindsey Open Churches Weekends

Saturday, May 13, 2017 - Sunday, May 21, 2017 - Gainsborough All Saints - Other

A wonderful celebration of 95 churches in West Lindsey. Now in its 21st year, come along and celebrate the rich history, the glorious architecture and the varied events that are taking place.

Many of the churches are still the focal point of our villages and will provide you with an insight into the history and life of their parishes. Others offer a vibrant collection of stained glass, architecture, carvings and artefacts. And some of our smaller churches open their doors simply to provide you with an oasis of peace and spirituality, a place to relax and witness the Holy Spirit. And finally, we offer intrigue and mystery as we uncover some hidden stories that our churches have kept so secret over the years.

Open Churches Weekend taking place 13th-14th May and 20th-21st May 2017.

Dates and times: Each individual church will have its own opening times. These are all featured in our guide book. Please email Helen Wilson at to order your copy.
