Joy and celebration were very much in evidence at this year’s Lincoln Readers’ Annual Service and Licensing of new Readers in Lincoln Cathedral.
Readers from around the diocese gathered to celebrate their ministry and to commit themselves to their continued service of God and the people around them in their communities.
As part of the service, which was led by the Bishop of Grantham, five Readers were licensed for ministry in the diocese. These were:
Christine Collins is to serve in Mablethorpe, Trusthorpe, Sutton-on-Sea, Huttoft and Anderby.
Helen Copson is to serve in the benefice of Barrowby with Great Gonerby.
Christopher Godwin is to serve in the benefice of Barrowby with Great Gonerby.
Roger Goodrum is to serve in the Saxonwell Group of Churches.
Carolynne Hannabuss is to serve in the parish of St Andrew, Bonby.
In addition, two Readers were warmly welcomed as they transferred from other dioceses:
Claire Sauer is to serve in the parish of Marston, and David Stark is to serve in the Heckington and Helpringham Group.
As part of the service, the new Readers shared quotes that had been of great significance to them in their discernment and training for ministry, and paper ‘flip flops’ bearing words or phrases were shared with the congregation – these were offered as a symbolic reminder that we are called to love the Lord our God and ‘walk in all his ways’.
Drawing on Joshua 22:1–6 and Mark 13:32–end, the Bishop of Grimsby spoke of the importance of maintaining a clear focus on serving God, of developing a deep sense of discipleship and of making the most of the opportunities that are presented to us in our shared call to love and serve God.
Please join us as we continue to pray for our Readers and one another in the diocese as, together, we exercise ministry among the people and places in our local communities.
