Simon Dean (Discipleship Officer) reports on a recent fixture involving our cricket team...
The diocesan cricket team has managed one match this year, which was against the Diocese of Leicester. After losing the toss and being put into the field, the Lincoln opening bowlers kept a tight bowling line to the opening batsman. The breakthrough came after the first bowling change, with Simon Dean taking a catch off the bowling of the Revd Neil Knox.
This catch began a series of nine catches that eventually saw Leicester all out for 95 runs. There were two stand-out catches on the day: the first went to the Revd Trudy Hobson, who took her first catch one-handed in the slips on her debut. The second went to the Revd James Radcliffe, who managed to cling onto the ball as one of his teammates collided with him. Hugo Cobham (diocesan Stewardship Adviser), took five wickets on his debut for only 10 runs, causing the batsmen all sorts of problems.
After a superb tea provided by Market Deeping Cricket Club, the Lincoln team went out to bat and set about trying to reach the Leicester score. Five players reached double figures, with the Revd Adam Watson hitting a quick-fire 21 before getting out LBW. The St Peter’s in Eastgate duo of the Revd James Radcliffe and the Revd Sam Durant saw Lincoln over the line, as they calmly played out the game to give Lincoln another victory against the Diocese of Leicester, having previously beaten the same opponents last year.
