Diocesan Treasurers Praised by HMRC Operations Manager

Gift Aid Training & Small Donations Scheme 2014 Event - A Resounding Success

The treasurers of the diocese of Lincoln have been praised by Andrew Kayley, Operations Manager at HMRC - he recognised that they are 'enthusiastic & hard-working Treasurers'.

The Venerable Jane Sinclair, Archdeacon of Stow and Lindsey, said "We are always grateful for the unstinting dedication of all our volunteers and officers who support the work of the Church in Linolnshire, and I'm delighted that the commitment of our treasurers, which we value so highly, has been recognised by HMRC."

The Diocese of Lincoln was delighted to welcome Andrew Kayley, Operations Manager at HMRC (Charities) as he presented Gift Aid training and the Small Donations Scheme 2014 to the PCC treasurers of the Diocese.

With over 150 delegates, the event, at Riseholme Conference Centre, was extremely well attended, and the treasurers were delighted with the quality of the event, and the support being offered through the diocesan centre.

The Diocese of Lincoln recognises the huge task its volunteers have in managing their church finances, and has invested in membership of the Association of Church Accountants & Treasurers. Membership entitles each treasurer to receive the Association of Church Accountants & Treasurers Handbook (an extremely useful, and updatable reference guide), a telephone helpline, access to experts on VAT and a website login. For those not at the conference, these are being distributed over the next few weeks.

Simon Bland, Resources Consultant for the diocese, was delighted to announce that the diocese will soon be able to offer a centralised gift aid scheme. This will mean that the diocese will effectively act as an ‘agent' for the smaller parishes, which will remove a huge burden of administration, and ensure the lack of access to a computer or broadband does not reduce the Gift Aid a parish can claim. Further information on this will be available very soon.

A specialist church accountancy software pilot is also going to be available soon, and over 50 treasurers volunteered to use and help evaluate the software as part of the scheme.
