Lincoln Cathedral to host Jesus Christ Superstar

06 May 2014

Hit rock-opera will run in the Cathedral's Nave as part of Magna Carta celebrations

Lincoln Cathedral has announced that a spectacular show will form part of its Magna Carta 800 celebrations next year.

A production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's rock-opera Jesus Christ Superstar will run in the Cathedral's Nave over two weeks in July 2015.

The show tells the story of the last week of Jesus Christ's life leading to his trial and crucifixion, told from Judas Iscariot's point of view.

Special permission for the production had to be granted personally by Lord Lloyd Webber who said he was very excited at the idea of the fully-staged production being held in such an historic and spectacular venue.

The Cathedral has secured the services of three talented, well-known local people to mount the production. Brad Buchanan and Ben Poole have been appointed to produce the show with Ben doubling up as artistic director, and Neil Martin as production manager.

The producers will be looking to use the best professional and amateur talent from around the East Midlands and keen to work with the local community. They are currently looking for existing singing groups and choirs who will join together to form a 200-strong ensemble.

Jesus Christ Superstar will run between July 23 and August 1, 2015.
