Lincs chaplain is given the reins of @OurCofE twitter account

23 January 2015

North East Lincolnshire Chaplain Mary Vickers will be taking over the popular Church of England twitter account, @OurCofE.

The idea behind the account is to allow one person to tweet about their life as part of the Church of England.

Mary will be taking on the task of tweeting to the 4,916 followers from Monday (26th January) and she is relishing the opportunity.

"It's exciting and nerve-racking to think that I will be tweeting to so many people," said Mary. "It's great to have been asked and I am thrilled to have been given this opportunity. It's affirmation for me that I am not doing too badly on twitter. I was once told by an apprentice "You do have a congregation Mary, it's just not in church, but on twitter," which I thought was great!"

Mary will be tweeting throughout the week and has given us a sneak peek as to what we can expect to hear about.

"I will obviously be tweeting about my general daily work and within that I have several visits, including one to an airport and a Chamber of Commerce lunch." Said Mary. "I will also be engaging with business' and clergy in an attempt to encourage workplaces to invite clergy members into their place of work and begin working together."

However, this isn't just about Mary's daily work: "I want to use this opportunity to promote how great North East Lincolnshire is. It's a fantastic place with so many opportunities. I also want to promote the work of my fellow chaplains and the important part chaplains play in the Church."

Throughout the week we will be re-tweeting some of Mary's tweets from our account @CofELincoln, so follow us and @OurCofE to keep up to date with the latest.
