Looking back on the 2017 Bike Ride & Stride

03 January 2018

Sarah Roberts looks back on the 2017 Lincolnshire Churches Trust Bike Ride and Stride...

Thank you to everyone who was involved in 2017’s Bike Ride and Stride – whether you were helping to organise the event, manning your church, persuading others to take part, taking part yourself or sponsoring someone. The event has so far raised £20,147, with some money still to be received. Half of the amount raised comes to the Trust, with the other half being kept by the participating church, helping with their local fundraising.

Many of the participants commented on the varied weather: although it started fine and sunny, most got wet at some point, with many trying hard to dodge the showers! The cyclists and walkers from the Alford Group of Churches were joined by two horses and their riders for part of the way, which they very much enjoyed and hope to repeat next year.

One lady came across from Norfolk to enjoy the towers and spires of Lincolnshire, and the group from Fotherby Benefice sang hymns at the churches they visited. The cyclists from Holy Cross, Boultham visited 17 churches – not all were open but they were greeted warmly at most, and helped on their way by a fellow cyclist who dealt with a puncture for them. They also met several couples on tandems! A couple cycling from Witham met a lady training for the Great Eastern Run and London Marathon – it was a busy day for all.

Please do make a note of the date for this years Bike Ride and Stride: Saturday, 8th September 2018. If you enjoyed taking part this year and feel that you would like to become more involved in the event, we are currently looking for Deanery Organisers in Axholme, Yarborough (Brigg area), Manlake (Scunthorpe), Christianity (Lincoln), Grimsby & Cleethorpes, and East & West Holland (Boston area). Deanery organisers are vital contacts between parish organisers and the County Organiser. With over 700 churches, the event would be impossible to run without the help of these volunteers.

For further information, please contact either myself by email or Nicholas Ridley (County Organiser) on 01476 55 00 55.
