09 March 2016
This year will see the 20th anniversary of the West Lindsey Churches Festival, with a record number of 94 churches set to take part in 2016.
Now one of the largest open churches festivals in Europe, visitors to the festival's annual conference on the 9th of March 2016 at Hemswell Court were treated to a range of guest speakers, offered advice on sharing and celebrating aspects of their parish churches, and enjoyed a special celebration cake.
Speakers at this year's conference included the Archdeacon of Stow & Lindsey, The Ven. Mark Steadman, and also the writer and broadcaster Dr Jonathan Foyle, who described the development and history of Lincoln Cathedral and its architectural impact and legacy.
This year's annual Open Churches Festival invites people to visit and explore the churches featured in its accompanying printed guide and online directory (www.churchesfestival.info), some of which will be offering lunches, organ music, bell ringing, crafts, book sales, art displays and themed exhibitions. The festival will take place over the following two weekends:
7-8th May 2016 - churches to the east of the district
14-15th May 2016 - churches to the west of the district
