Opportunities for theological reflection (1)

There are to be various opportunities for theological reflection in the coming weeks...

Lincoln Theological Society will next meet on Thursday, 5th October 2017 (7pm for 7.30pm) at Robert Hardy Lecture Theatre, Bishop Grosseteste University, Longdales Road, Lincoln LN1 3DY.

Professor Peter McCullough will speak on Changes in Liturgy, Preaching, Building and Governance from the Reformation to the Civil War as exemplified in St Pauls Cathedral.                                           

Professor Peter McCullough teaches English literature at, and is archivist to, Lincoln College, Oxford. He specialises in the period 1509 to 1740, and he writes, I have been particularly interested in the way that religion, both in its political and doctrinal aspects, contributed to Englands literary Renaissance. He serves as a Lay Canon on the Chapter of St Pauls Cathedral, where he carries a brief for the history of the cathedral and its interpretation for the public.

Tickets: £5 (to include a glass of wine or juice and free parking) are available from Lincoln Cathedral Shop, Unicorn Tree Books in Lincoln Market and on the door. Further information may be obtained via email or from the society’s website.


The next meeting of Peterborough Theological Society will take place on Wednesday, 27th September 2017. Dr Eeva John (Director of Pastoral Studies, Ridley Hall, Cambridge) will speak on ‘In-formation, trans-formation or re-formation? Winds of Change in theological education and the Church’. 

Meetings are normally held from 7.30–9.15pm at the Friends’ Meeting House, Thorpe Road, Peterborough PE3 6AB (parking is available). Subscriptions: annual  £20 (couples – £30; unwaged students – £10); individual meetings  £4. Rutland Theological Society will next meet on Thursday, 5th October 2017 (7.30pm). The Revd Dr John Moses KCVO will speak on ‘Helen Waddell – a burning and shining light’ at Oakham Methodist Church. 

Subscriptions: annual subscription  £10 for 5 meetings, including a voucher to bring a guest to one of the meetings. Non-members  £3 per meeting. More information may be obtained from the societys website.
