26 June 2016
As previously published at the end of April, a Requiem Mass for the Revd John Pryor is to be held in the Cathedral on Saturday, 2nd July 2016.
The service, which will be led by the Revd Canon John Patrick, will begin at 1.30pm, and the preacher will be the Revd Canon Dr Jeffrey Heskins. It is very much hoped that friends and former colleagues of John will be able to attend and join in this celebration of his life, his ministry and his contribution to our diocese.
Through his ministry, John made a significant and lasting contribution to the life of the diocese, with some of his roles including serving as Assistant Master of Bishop Grosseteste College, Lincoln (1981-84); Chaplain (1983-84); Hon. Assistant Curate of Ingham with Cammeringham with Fillingham (1982-87, 1992-99); and Lincoln Diocesan Schools Officer (1987-92).
John also faithfully helped and served parishes during a time of interregnum; he devoted time to help people to explore a possible calling to the ordained ministry, listening and sharing his wisdom; and he was instrumental in the setting up of the Springline Parish, a benefice of eight parish churches that serve the people from Burton Waters and Burton-by-Lincoln to Fillingham. Until recently, John and his wife, Sheila, were resident in Fillingham, with Sheila serving as churchwarden, and the annual services of carols by candlelight at St Andrew's Church in the village were always a great highlight for all.
The July/August 2016 issue of Crosslincs will include a feature on how John has been remembered by the children, staff and friends of Scampton Church of England Primary School.
