Diocesan staff from Edward King House have gathered to say farewell to the Revd Dr Bill Goodman, who leaves on Friday to take up a new role as the Assistant Principal for St Peter’s College, and Director of Ongoing Ministerial Development, in the Diocese of Sheffield.
Bill has been in post since September 2014, and his contribution to the life of the diocese in his role as Continuing Ministerial Development Officer has been greatly appreciated. In January, Bill was responsible for running a successful leadership course for some of our diocesan clergy, an event that was attended by the Bishop of Grantham.
Reflecting on this valuable event, Bishop Nicholas has said, “I was privileged to take part in this course. Bill gave us all opportunities to think, to learn new things and to share ideas and concerns. His characteristic supportive approach helped to make people feel secure and appreciated. Bill constructed a programme that took into account the wide range of experience of participants and also their different interests, likes and dislikes. The worship was varied, and his extraordinary Biblical learning was woven through the course with skill and sensitivity.
Since arriving in the Diocese of Lincoln, Bill has contributed a huge amount to our life together, and has helped us to put in place important commitments to the professional development of our clergy. Bill will be much missed by many but he goes with our thanks, our blessing, our prayers and our very best wishes for his new ministry in Sheffield. As a former CMD officer myself, I feel that I can speak with conviction when I say that I recognise in Bill a colleague whose commitment to the ministry and the mission of God’s Church really shines through in all that he does.”
Speaking of his new appointment, Bill has said, “I’m excited about the new post, but I do have mixed feelings about the prospect of moving on. My work here has been developing well, and I’ve enjoyed getting to know so many interesting and impressive colleagues. Some important family issues have been a significant factor in this decision.”
Pending the appointment of a successor to Bill, all enquiries relating to Continuing Ministerial Development may be directed to Neil Burgess, Ministry Team Leader & Ministerial Development Review Officer. Neil may be contacted by calling 01522 50 40 23 or via email at email@example.com
A keen sailor, Bill was presented with a specially themed cake as his colleagues wished him well for the future. Please join us in holding Bill and his family in prayer.
