The wait is on for official confirmation that the team behind a teddy bear challenge has achieved a new World Record.
People from near and far have been sending knitted teddies to the team based at St Mary's Church in Barton upon Humber, and the final count revealed that the figure of 16,099 teddies had been achieved, passing the existing record of 15,534.
The bears, which are destined for Christmas shoeboxes that form part of the annual Operation Christmas Child campaign to offer a simple gift to children around the world, were laid out, counted and measured at Baysgarth Leisure Centre, with members of the local community, including schoolchildren and sixth-formers, all lending a hand.
As the wait continues, the team and their supporters are looking forward to a Shoebox Celebration Service that is to be held at St Mary's Church on Sunday, 20th November 2016 at 9.30am. Completed shoeboxes may be brought to this service of praise and thanksgiving, at which the guest speaker will be Adam Tankard (Regional Manager, Operation Christmas Child UK).
