Vote on women bishops to be taken today

14 July 2014

General Synod

Members of the Church of England's ruling body will vote on whether to allow women to become bishops today.

General Synod is currently meeting in York and is due to debate and vote on the Bishops and Priests (Consecration and Ordination of Women) Measure later today.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, told the BBC's Andrew Marr show yesterday, he was 'hopeful' the legislation would be passed.
