The Diocese of Lincoln is launching its year of discipleship this Sunday.
Rather than a central event each Mission Community is being encouraged to use a special commissioning liturgy as part of Sunday worship (you can find the text [here]).
The Reverend John Leach, discipleship development advisor and trainer, is looking forward to the year ahead and gives us a look at what the year will bring.
"We will offer ourselves afresh as followers of Jesus, and commit ourselves to being part of the many opportunities which the year ahead offers us." Said John
"The exciting programme for the Year of Discipleship is available on the website, and we are adding other events and opportunities throughout the year."
The General Synod released a major new discussion paper on Discipleship this week, coinciding with Lincoln Diocese launching our year of discipleship.
"Discipleship, the General Synod report tells us, is an invitation to the strongest hope, the deepest joy, the greatest fulfilment, the most authentic pattern of living, the highest adventure known to humanity." Explains John.
"The call of Jesus is to have life in all its fullness (John 10.10). His message brings us joy: “I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete” (John 15.11). Don’t miss out on this exciting move of God's Holy Spirit not just across this Diocese, but in the whole of the C of E."
The year of discipleship also has it's very own Twitter account. Follow @YoD_Lincoln to hear from the Discipleship team and other disciples across the diocese who are taking part.
