People from around the diocese have gathered in St Denys’ Church in Sleaford for A Celebration of Women’s Ministry.
The service, which was led by the Ven. Dr Justine Allain Chapman, Archdeacon of Boston, included the commissioning of the Revd Michelle Godbold as Diocesan Adviser in Women’s Ministry by the Rt Revd Dr Nicholas Chamberlain, Bishop of Grantham.
As has been previously published, Michelle (pictured above), who is Rector of the Benefice of the Graffoe Group, is to serve in this additional role as part of the diocesan ministry team. Part of the role will include the monitoring of the experience of women in the diocese in ordained and lay ministry, to act as a source of pastoral care, and to work towards the fullest possible development of the potential of women in ministry.
Speaking at the time of Michelle’s appointment, the Bishop of Grantham, who has responsibility for ministry in the diocese, said: “When I was a parish priest I rejoiced to have colleagues lay and ordained, female and male, as part of the ministry team of the parishes. Michelle’s appointment significantly strengthens the diocese’s support for our women ministers. She will be able to represent the experience of women both within Lincoln diocesan structures and with the national Church, and I am certain that she will help us all to make positive progress in using fully our gifts and talents together.”
The service was a joyous celebration of all areas of women’s ministry, lay and ordained, and commemorated the 30th anniversary of the ordination of women to the diaconate, 25 years since General Synod voted in favour of ordaining women to the priesthood, and 100 years since the first woman was consecrated into the congregational church in the UK.
