Further to recent news of this year’s Church Urban Fund Advent Sleepout Challenge, it has been announced that St Nicholas Church in Newport, Lincoln will be taking part for the third year running.
As the Lincolnite has reported, the Sleepout is due to take place in a stable to be constructed outside the church building on Saturday, 9th December 2017, with those taking part to spend the night in the stable, and a group of under-18s to spend the night in the church building.
The Revd Hugh Jones, who will be sleeping under the stars with the rest of the group, has said: “It’s easy to forget that the Christmas story is actually all about homelessness, poverty and social exclusion. Every year, the Sleepout reminds me how lucky I am to be able to go home the next night, and sleep in my own bed. This year, the Church of England across the city of Lincoln is joining together as a deanery to take the challenge of thinking about those who don’t have the things we take for granted, and doing something to help.”
People who wish to take part this year are asked to contact the church in advance via email at email@example.com (People aged under 18 are asked to get in touch with the Sleepout youth team.)
