“It was a new awakening to prayer,” said one of the 12 people from St Mary’s Horncastle who recently completed a Week of Guided Prayer led by Canon Stephen Hoy, Diocesan Spirituality Adviser, and a team of prayer guides at the church. “What a wonderful experience”, commented one person, while another said: “Well, it was not at all what I expected, but the week has brought me such peace!”
A Week of Guided Prayer invites people to spend 30 minutes a day using a particular framework of prayer, which includes meditating on a passage of scripture; they meet every day with a prayer guide for 40 minutes and the guide’s task is both to listen to their experience and to listen to what God is doing in their lives.
“I feel I now have a way forward with God,” was one comment, while another person taking part in the week said: “It was like having a spiritual hug from God every day!” The photo shows some of the people who took part in the Week of Guided Prayer, together with Canon Hoy and the team of prayer guides.
