Safety on the county roads of Lincolnshire was was a major focus as the Bishop of Grimsby blessed the gritter fleet at the Sturton-by-Stow depot on Wednesday.
Bishop David spoke with the workers and acknowledged that they work through the night while others sleep to ensure that the roads are safe and, while not seen, their work is vital. The Bishop prayed with the workers and gave his blessing for the nights ahead when the staff will be called out.
The county has 43 gritting machines and 35 thousand tonnes of salt, which is sourced from Egypt ready for when the temperature is near freezing point. Each night the temperature is monitored carefully so as to determine whether there is a need for the team to be on the road, called out or stood down.
