As previously mentioned, a new cycling event, titled The Holbeach St Johns Fun 50, is to be held in the south Lincolnshire countryside on Sunday, 25th June 2017.
Set to offer ‘a sportive with two loops of 25 miles each, giving the rider a choice of either 50 miles or 25 miles’, all profits from this maiden event are to go to the parish church at Holbeach St Johns. Bookings are now being taken, and organisers state that both routes will start from the village hall in Holbeach St Johns, which will provide the location for sign-on and registration, plus food and drink and toilet facilities for the riders.
Looking ahead to this event, two members of the ‘HSJ Funraisers committee’, Jo and Richard, were at the Holbeach St Johns village fete on Sunday, 4th June. As part of an effort to raise money for the village hall and to promote the Fun 50 cycle event, they rode the equivalent mileage from the village hall to Lincoln Cathedral, covering 55.3 miles on two static cycles. Starting at midday and finishing just before 4pm, their route was mapped (pictured below) so that their progress could be seen throughout, and they raised just over £60.
Further information, including a booking facility, is available from the British Cycling website
