Clergy Safeguarding Training Programme 2012/13
From the Bishop of Lincoln: To All Licensed Clergy in the Diocese of Lincoln
Dear Colleague,
Mandatory Safeguarding Training
Our churches should be places of welcome and hospitality for everyone. They should also be places of security and safety, especially for the vulnerable who frequently seek a home among us. Those in leadership and charged with pastoral care of the flock of Christ must ensure that we are well trained in our understanding of the policies and practices related to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.
In common with other dioceses, we are beginning a new round of safeguarding training this year. The training will be provided by my Safeguarding Officer, Simon Payne, and facilitated by the Archdeacon of Stow and Lindsey and members of the FDM team.
I am making it mandatory for all licensed clergy (including myself and the senior staff team) to take part in a training session. There have been significant developments in safeguarding practice and procedure since initial training some years ago. The potential for well-intentioned but uninformed practice in this area to create problems has been well illustrated over the years.
Over the next 12 months there are six sessions for you to choose from in three different locations across the diocese. You can find further details and times here: Bishop's Safeguarding Training Letter 17 September and you can sign up for a session by clicking on the date and location below.
These training events of refresher safeguarding training for clergy will from part of a future rolling programme which will include Saturdays and Midweek evenings to cater for the needs of clergy who are unable to access training during the working week.
May the training we share together be a blessing to those we serve
Yours sincerely
Bishop of Lincoln
