Mandatory Safeguarding Training

To help support the training delivered by the diocesan safeguarding team, completion of an online safeguarding training course will be mandatory for anyone who has a role within the church as per the Training and Development policy. The course is free, and is supported by the Lincolnshire Safeguarding Adults and Children Board. This training is complementary to the group face-to-face training and does not replace it.

This e-learning course must be completed before attending any courses run by the diocesan safeguarding team, and a certificate of completion’ will be required on the day of face-to-face training. Please note we will require a certificate, not a letter of CPD; this can only be achieved if you have fully completed the course. (Recently, people have been receiving a notification that they have not completed the course even though they have printed the CPD off. This is because either the test at the end has not been completed or they have not evaluated the course  please return to your front page and press assessment, complete and you should see ‘you have now completed your course, do you want to print your certificate?). If you are unable to print a certificate on completion of the online module, please advise the trainer when you attend the diocesan training session.

  1. Please note that the diocese safeguarding team might not always be available to assist you. If in doubt, please request assistance by emailing

  1. Please remember to print off the certificate upon completion of the session and bring it along to any safeguarding training session that you attend.

If you do not have access to a computer or the internet, to complete this training please talk to your incumbent and/or Parish Safeguarding Co-ordinator in the first instance for assistance. There might be many in your position and a joint session could be held in a parish. Here is an example of how to do it:

  • A group sits around a computer

  • All sign a register

  • One person registers under their name to the online course

  • The group participates

  • The course ends, the person registered can print a certificate; the others will not get a certificate for online training at this stage

  • The facilitator (person who registered) contacts the diocesan safeguarding team with the names on the register

  • The safeguarding team issues certificates to those individuals once the face-to-face training is complete.

[NB. You do not need to wait until you are booked into a diocesan training event to complete the online module. The online training can be completed at any time, and we would advise that those who are not due to renew their safeguarding training do still complete the online module so as to complement and reinforce their current understanding of safeguarding.]

In addition to this, and if you have not been able to complete the online training before attending a face-to-face course, do not worry  you are still welcome. A two-week grace period will be given to those unable to complete before the face-to-face training.
