St Wulfram’s Church in Grantham has announced details of special services to mark St Wulfram’s Day next month.

On Sunday, 14th October 2018, the eve of St Wulfram’s Day, there is to be a Patronal Festal Eucharist in the church, and this service is set to include a brass ensemble from the King’s School, Grantham.

Later that day, there will be a lecture offered by Professor Magnus Williamson (University of Newcastle). An expert on the history of music in English parish churches, this interactive lecture will begin at 3pm, with Professor Williamson assisted by the teenage youth choir in exploring the historical musical traditions at St Wulfram’s.

The patronal festival will also see the celebration of 150 years since the Victorian reforming of the parish church choir at St Wulfram’s, and a Solemn Festal Evensong at 6.30pm will include a world premiere of Philip Moore’s ‘Hymn to a Wayfaring Saint’. A new commission for the Choir of St Wulframs, this composition, set to words by Thomas Allain Chapman, is in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the choir and in thanksgiving for the life of Philip Lank, a former Master of Music at St Wulframs.
