Keeping up to date with maintenance is vitally important for the health of our church buildings, but sometimes finding the necessary funds can be difficult. The National Churches Trust has a Maintenance Grant Programme, which seeks to help with small, urgent repair issues, which have perhaps been identified in a recent Quinquennial Inspection Report.

Grants range from £500 to £3000, and the total project cost must be less than £10,000 including VAT. In order to be eligible, two quotes are required and 50% match funding must be in place. In addition, works must not have started before the next grant deadline of 23rd May 2018.

There were 24 grants awarded at the most recent grant meeting, with the average size of grant being £2343. Projects included repointing, stone repair, overhaul of rainwater goods and roof repairs.

So as spring approaches, think about whether your church building would benefit from some TLC and whether a grant from the National Churches Trust could help.
