Upon hearing of the demise of the Tealby School minibus (see news report here), the Walesby Group of Parishes decided to make a donation towards the Tealby School replacement minibus fund. In addition, All Saints’ Church in Tealby recently hosted a ‘Wassail’ Christmas concert, with all the profits directed to the minibus fund.

At the concert, the Meridian Singers from Louth gave a fantastic performance to a nearly full church in Tealby, lifting the spirits of the audience and generating a festive spirit of goodwill and generosity. The Rector of the Walesby Group, the Revd Chris Hewitt, said that he was delighted by the generosity of the churches in his care, and also thanked the Meridian Singers for their time and singing talent.

Chris said “I am filled with joy, when as a church we are able to support others, and that is more precious when we can do so knowing that the need is within the local communities we serve. We hope our efforts and that of other generous sponsors in the community will enable Tealby School and its staff to continue their tradition of providing an outstanding education for the young people in their care.”

After the recent Class One nativity play and school Christingle celebration in church, Chris, on behalf of the churches, presented a cheque for £1404.20 to the Tealby School PTFA and Headteacher Mrs Popplewell. A further £40 was raised on the day to support the work of the Children’s Society.

Looking ahead to Christmas, Chris reflected: “There is a special human quality that appears in times of trouble and crisis, when we all pull together for the common good. And just maybe, as Christmas approaches and we celebrate the birth of Jesus, we might more closely identify from where that selflessness and generosity truly comes.”
