Let's talk loneliness webinar Linking Lives UK is a national Christian charity which has been working to address loneliness and social isolation for the past 10 years. However, at the current time it has no presence in Lincolnshire (except a fledgling project in Boston) but the charity is very much aware of the challenges – particularly in more rural areas – which are being faced by many people in the county at this time. On Tuesday 2nd February it is hosting an interactive webinar which is aimed at representatives from any churches or Christian organisations based in Lincolnshire. The session will run from 10-11.30 am. Book your place on Eventbrite. The session will cover the following: A discussion of the issue of loneliness and social isolation (particularly among older people) Possible responses that churches and individual Christians can make (particularly during this challenging time) in their local communities and exploring potential informal and more organised approaches Tools and resources which Linking Lives UK has available including its telephone befriending tool ‘Two’s Company’ which is available to churches as part of their outreach to those who may be socially isolated at this time. About the charity Linking Lives operates using a successful local model (which began in a Baptist church in Berkshire in 1998). As a charity, it works with churches to help set up befriending projects aimed at supporting socially isolated older people and we now have 66 befriending projects (either home visiting or telephone befriending) across the UK. Statistics on loneliness 4.2 million people in the UK say they always or often feel lonely (double the number in March 2020). 58% of churches in the UK consider loneliness and social isolation to be the key issue that will be facing people in their community in the next year ('Hope Beyond' - AllChurches Trust , July 2020).
