Martin Cooper, member of the PCC for the church, is trying to locate two Temple Moore statues of the Virgin Mary and St John the Baptist that sat alongside the Temple Moore crucifix which were located in the hallway of the Chapel of the Bishop’s Hostel Lincoln which latterly became Lincoln Theological College.

Temple Moore (1856-1920) was an English architect who practised in London and is famous for his Gothic Revival churches. In addition to designing churches he also developed church fittings and memorial crosses.

In 2016, Martin acquired, on behalf of the PCC, the Temple Moore organ case that was designed for the Chapel and the property developers also gave him the crucifix. However the two statues which had sat beside it, were missing.

The photograph shows them together in 2002 but despite having made enquiries with the last warden of the College, the DAC, Lincoln University conservation department and the tenant who vacated the site prior to it being sold to the developers he has not been able to find them.

Martin said: “The organ is a striking addition to our church, as is the crucifix, which we have had restored but we really would like to either have the originals of the statues or have copies made so they are reunited with the crucifix. Our church has two niches where they could really be shown off to some advantage so we are really keen to find them. I am hoping they are still within the Diocese of Lincoln so am trying to track them down and hope someone, somewhere can help me.”
