“Well, I didn’t think it was for me at all, but I gave it a go and it was an amazing week – everyone should have a chance to do this.”

Just one of the comments from the 20 people from the Uphill Lincoln churches who took part in a Week of Guided Prayer earlier this month. The week, organised and led by the Revd Canon Stephen Hoy, Diocesan Spirituality Adviser, involved people from St Nicholas, St Giles, St Mary Magdalene and St John, Ermine.

“It moved me to tears several times, but I have come out of the week with a fresh vision of God and a renewed prayer life.”

Eight prayer guides from across the diocese were involved with the week, and participants were asked to spend 30 minutes in prayer each day before meeting individually with their prayer guide each day.

“My prayer life has been transformed by this experience. It was an exhausting week (who knew prayer could be so tiring!), but it showed me clearly what was getting in the way of my relationship with God. A joyful, refreshing, wonderful experience.”
