News and events Stories New diocesan initiative for young people (18-30) The Diocese of Lincoln hopes to begin a new initiative for young people called Xperience*, aimed at those aged between 18-30. Starting in October 2019, it will offer an opportunity for three people who would like to explore their calling or, for example, it could be a gap year for someone aged 18 before they go to university ahead of pursuing a life of ministry. The placements will offer a wide variety of experiences including: Serving in a parish under the supervision of an experienced priest and their teams Engagement in different styles of worship Learning how to help people to grow in confidence and faith Working in schools and universities Improving their knowledge and understanding of ministry through training days with the Lincoln School of Theology All participants will live as part of the Edenham Regional House Community. An outline of a ‘typical’ week can be found in the document below and is centred around a framework of worship. There is also time set aside for study, recreation, personal development and involvement in the wider Edenham Community. Revd Sonia Barron, Diocesan Director of Ordinands said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone wanting to explore their calling and what that could look like in reality. To help them on their path all the participants will have a mentor and I will be holding one-to-one sessions with each of them to explore what God’s calling could mean for them.” “The Diocese has invested a lot in its clergy over the past few years and this initiative is aimed at reaching out to the next generation. It offers a real chance for someone to ‘get stuck in’ and learn from real-life situations. I am very excited about this development and the gift it will bring to someone who wants to explore what it means to serve God.” Fr Edward Martin will lead the team, and you will be supported and guided by a supervisor, have an assigned mentor, and have regular discussions with the DDO, the Revd Sonia Barron and Vocations Adviser. The accommodation is free and all students will be provided with a weekly allowance to cover food and expenses. All other expenses relating to the placement will also be covered. ***The closing date for applications is Friday 12th July 2019*** More information, including a timetable of usual day-to-day activities at Edenham House can be found here. A flyer can be found here. *Xperience is part of the MES (Ministry Experience Scheme) for those exploring calling to Ministry in the Church of England.
