Church Magazines Awards Presentation Ceremony

Parish magazine editors might also be interested to know that the Association for Church Editors ‘Church Magazines Awards Presentation Ceremony’ is to be held on Saturday, 5th May 2018 at Coventry’s Methodist Central Hall.

At the heart of the Association’s activities, it is said by the organisers that these awards have inspired the editors of church magazines in one form or another as they are encouraged to improve standards of presentation in a world where the Christian church needs to stand out and be noticed.

The Revd John Leach, Developing Discipleship Adviser and Trainer in our diocese, will offer the keynote speech. His chosen subject is ‘Don’t shoot the messenger!’ Based on 2 Samuel 1 as a case study for communication, he will answer the questions ‘What’s the story? What’s the audience? What’s the purpose? What’s the spin? What’s the style? Where’s the feedback?’ It also said that he will show that every one of these questions should be in an editor’s mind as each new issue is put together for its readers.

Both members and non-members of the Association are equally welcome to come along to the meeting. There is a nominal cost of £5 to help pay for refreshments. Full details are available on the Association’s website, where a booking form can be downloaded, or please call the treasurer and membership officer on 01477 53 41 93.
