A large congregation has gathered in Lincoln Cathedral today (27th March 2018) for a Sung Eucharist, with the Renewal of Vows and Blessing of the Oils.

A special event in the life of our diocese, this year the service took place in the nave of the cathedral so as to accommodate the increasing numbers of people wishing to attend.

As part of this service, our diocesan clergy reaffirmed the vows made at the time of their ordination, and our bishops reaffirmed their episcopal commitment. In addition, the oil for the anointing of the sick and dying, the oil for the signing with the cross at baptism and the oil of chrism were presented in turn to Bishop Christopher to be blessed.

At the conclusion of the service, the oils were taken out into parishes around the diocese so that they may be used in the service of God and God’s people in the coming year.

Some photographs taken at the service are published below, and Bishop Christopher’s sermon is available here.
