Churches all over the Diocese will be losing out on income from cafes, shops and hiring of halls during this unprecedented time. In order to help small businesses, the government have been offering grants to cover some of the financial shortfall.

To date grants have been available to small businesses who pay business rates which will apply to some of our buildings in the Diocese but not the majority.

The Discretionary Grant Fund is for churches who do not pay business rates.

This additional Discretionary fund is aimed at small businesses who were not eligible for the Small Business Grant Fund or the Retail, Leisure and Hospitality Fund.

Greater Lincolnshire councils have begun to announce their process and policies for claiming from the Discretionary Fund. Some councils will be accepting applications from Monday 1st June, while others will begin on Monday 8th June or at a later date. The scheme will be open for up to two weeks from your local council's launch date or until funding is exhausted.

It is expected to be heavily over-subscribed so it’s advisable to contact the relevant local authority and get an application in quickly.

Click on the link below to help navigate to the business grants section of all the local authority webpages in the Diocese or alternatively visit the local authority website directly.

If you do pay business rates you will be eligible and can still apply for the Small Business Grant Fund or the Retail, Leisure and Hospitality Fund.

Here is an example of a church showing it really works in practise……

The Pottery Café inside the Church of the Holy Spirit in Scunthorpe applied for the Small Business Grant. All that was needed was a bank statement and a copy of the business rate statement. The application was a simple on line form.  A grant of  £10,000 was received within 6 days of application.

If you have any questions regarding these grants please contact Jane Hodgson, Stewardship Officer, [email protected] or Tel No 07701 364461. As there is only is only a fortnight to complete applications and funds are limited please act this week, as applications will be treated in order of submission.
