Lord, Show Us The Way

A journey of listening, prayer and strategy across the Diocese of Lincoln.

Find your way around:

A hopeful future, rooted in prayer

A journey of listening…

As we look to the future of mission and ministry in the Diocese of Lincoln, we are setting out on a journey of discernment.

This is not just about writing a strategy document for the next 10 years (although that will happen!).

It’s about walking together in faith, asking where the Spirit is leading us – listening to you and listening to God’s call to become the Church we are called to be.

Shaping a strategy.

Rooted in prayer, theology and local wisdom, this journey will shape a new decade-long Diocesan strategy.

It builds on the foundation of Time to Change Together and responds to the national Church of England’s call to become:

  • A church of missionary disciples.
  • A church of mixed expressions and ways of being (ecology).
  • A church which is younger and more diverse.

The heart of the process: Lord, Show Us The Way

At the centre of this journey is Lord, Show Us The Way‘ – a year of shared reflection, prayer and honest conversation across our Diocese. Together, we are asking:

“What is God’s call to us – not just in theory, but practically, in this time and in this place?”

This process is an invitation for every church, group and person to listen first, before planning or acting.

We want to honour the wisdom from every corner of the diocese, shaped by scripture and the Spirit. We need to hear your voice, in order to ground our strategy in the reality of our shared experiences.

Steps along the way

We’re currently in a year-long period of listening, reflecting and strategy planning across the Diocese of Lincoln. The strategy creation process will unfold in stages throughout 2025, with a final version shared the following year:

Companions on the journey

As we discern where God is leading the Diocese of Lincoln, a number of groups are walking alongside us – listening, reflecting, and helping shape the way forward:

Strategy Working Group

Steering the journey.

The Strategy Working Group is bringing together insights from across the Diocese – listening to the Lever Groups, engaging with theological reflection, and shaping the overall direction of the new Diocesan strategy.

The Strategy Working Group is:

  • Overseeing the strategy development process.
  • Drawing connection between different themes and insights.
  • Supporting consultation and communication across the Diocese.
  • Preparing the strategic drafts for Bishop’s Council and Diocesan Synod.

Lever Groups

Exploring key areas of growth and mission.

As part of ‘Lord, Show Us The Way’, Lever Groups are exploring themes like people, places, ministry and resources to shape our long-term Diocesan strategy.

Each group is meeting regularly for a number of months, drawing on theological support and listening widely across the Diocese.

The lever groups are:

  • Rooted in scripture and prayer.
  • Seeking practical, Spirit-led steps for the future.
  • Supported by a Theological Reference Group.
  • Embodying six shared values: Confident, mission-focused, collaborative, adventurous, resilient, and capable.

Theological Reference Group

Grounding the journey in scripture and prayer.

The Theological Reference Group supports the shaping of our long-term Diocesan strategy by helping to ensure every aspect of the process is rooted in the life of God, as revealed in scripture, tradition, reason and prayerful discernment.

The Theological Reference Group is:

  • Offering theological reflection to support the Lever Groups.
  • Encouraging deep listening to God’s call for the Diocese.
  • Providing passages from scripture and guiding questions for reflection.
  • Grounding the strategy creation process work in hope, mission, and the priesthood of all believers.
