Big boost to community and heritage as All Saint’s Nettleham secures major lottery grant

All Saints Church in Nettleham has announced a £248,000 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to restore Nettleham Church Tower, enabling this beautiful and historic church to continue to serve its community.

The sacred building is a Grade 1 listed church containing hundreds-of-years old medieval stonework, painted decoration (a rare survivor of the Reformation), windows and a altar stone. Without this funding from the Heritage Fund the church would become unsafe, unusable and the precious features of the church would be lost over time.

The restoration project will enable conservation of the tower which will save the building. It can then continue to serve the parish as a much-loved church and well-used community space, and provide opportunities for the new generation of bellringers who train at All Saints.

Villagers and visitors will gain unique opportunities to engage with conservation through guided tours, expert talks, and hands-on craft workshops. Activities will include scaffolding tours, giving participants a close view of the repair work, as well as interactive sessions led by skilled heritage craftspeople. These experiences will appeal to all ages, deepening appreciation of historic conservation and traditional building techniques.

In addition, a new ‘Nature & Heritage Trail‘ will blend biodiversity with local history, inviting people to explore the rich connections between the churchyard’s natural environment and its heritage.

All Saints’ long-term sustainability will be enhanced by improving the condition of the building, developing strategic partnerships and engaging people from all sorts of different backgrounds. The project will strengthen the church’s financial resilience, governance, and ability to engage with the wider community which will secure the future of this special building.

The Revd Michelle Webb, Priest-in-Charge at All Saints said:

“We are thrilled to have received this support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

“Thanks to National Lottery players for enabling us to protect All Saints Church’s rich heritage and ensure it remains a vibrant place for worship, heritage, and community life.”

All Saints Church will be running events throughout the project. Visit the website www.asn.church to find out more about the different ways to get involved.
