Read the storyVocation means a call from God. One of the first things Jesus did in his public ministry was to call disciples. It’s the same call we all hear today. On Sunday 11 March, we recognise and celebrate God’s blessing for vocations as part of our Christian discipleship and daily living.
Every Christian has a vocation. It’s an exciting lifelong journey of discovering how best to express your gifts and talents for the glory of God. There are numerous opportunities to help you become equipped for this journey, no matter who you are. That includes – you!
Whatever you are feeling, there are people who understand and can talk to you about whatever it is you are sensing. We’re ready to help you navigate the way forward on this exciting journey. We hope this comes as a great relief.

God is always calling people to various ministries in our church and in our lives. It can sometimes be confusing to understand how you can serve Christ and develop into the person God has called you to be (and thrive while doing it!).
There are many different lay and ordained ways to serve. In simple terms, being ordained means you lead worship, preach, and administer the sacraments (bread and wine). There are lots of lay opportunities including licensed lay ministry, children and youth ministry, administration roles and many more. We can help you explore that.
To give you an idea, here are some of most common vocational pathways in the Diocese of Lincoln.
Aged 18-30? Consider attending the next Step Forward event which is taking place in Exeter to find out more about ministry.
Your vocation can be lived out in your daily life. Our new (free) Digital Learning Platform, Learn-Grow-Share, is now available to help you deepen your relationship with Christ and be well equipped for your day. It’s designed to help you take your next step in the journey of faith. It might even inspire you to pursue a specific church vocation!

We welcome anyone who feels called to serve God in the Diocese of Lincoln. Have a conversation with your local priest, or you can contact our Diocesan Director of Ordinands, the Revd Sonia Barron:
God our Father, Lord of all the world,
through your Son you have called us into the fellowship
of your universal Church:
hear our prayer for your faithful people
that in their vocation and ministry
each may be an instrument of your love,
through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
