Become part of shaping the Future of Lincolnshire’s Historic Churches

Join the Committee of the Church Repair Society

The Church Repair Society has been helping churches across Greater Lincolnshire care for their buildings for over 40 years. Through grants, savings schemes and practical support, the Society works alongside parishes to preserve some of the region’s most important historic buildings.

We are now looking for new members to join our Committee, as well as volunteers to assist us with our Secretary and Treasurer functions.

This is an opportunity to become involved in a friendly and well-established charity that provides practical support to churches facing the challenges of maintaining and repairing their buildings.

What does the Society do?

  • Contributes towards the cost of Quinquennial Inspections, currently providing grants of up to £250 to member churches.
  • Operates repair and restoration savings funds, helping churches build resources for future works.
  • Holds more than £240,000 in ring-fenced funds on behalf of member churches for repair and restoration projects.
  • Provides practical advice and encouragement through church visits and engagement with parish volunteers.
  • Works closely with diocesan buildings specialists.

A Society Making a Difference

In the last year:

  • 34 member churches received support towards the cost of their Quinquennial Inspection.
  • The Chair personally visited 26 churches to discuss their buildings and repair needs.
  • Members contributed almost £20,000 into repair funds for future works.
  • Over £6,600 was withdrawn by churches to support repair projects.
  • The Society’s total funds exceeded £300,000 by March 2026, with the majority held on behalf of member churches.

What is involved?

The Committee meets quarterly at Dunholme Village Hall and helps oversee the work of the Society. Committee members have the opportunity to:

  • Visit churches across the Diocese.
  • Meet dedicated churchwardens and volunteers.
  • Support the stewardship of repair funds.
  • Help develop and promote the Society’s work.
  • Play a direct role in safeguarding Lincolnshire’s rich church heritage.

You do not need to be an architect, surveyor or buildings specialist. We welcome anyone with an interest in church buildings, heritage, finance, governance, administration or supporting local churches.

Opportunities beyond the committee

In addition to recruiting Committee members, we would also be pleased to hear from anyone with administration, bookkeeping or finance skills who may be interested in supporting the Society’s Secretary or Treasurer functions.

These are separate voluntary roles involving light, flexible, ad hoc assistance and could easily fit alongside full-time employment or other commitments.

They offer a rewarding opportunity to use professional skills to support local churches, contribute to a longstanding charity, gain experience in the voluntary sector, or simply give something back to the communities we serve.
