Welcoming Paul Brewster as the new Chair of the Lincoln Diocesan Trust and Board of Finance

Welcome to our new chair

We’re delighted to welcome Paul Brewster as the new Chair of the Lincoln Diocesan Trust and Board of Finance (LDTBF). His lifelong commitment to Greater Lincolnshire, the Church, education, and public service brings a wealth of experience and insight to this important role.

A career rooted in Lincolnshire

Paul was educated in Horncastle before embarking on a 35‑year career with a distinguished banking organisation. He began as an office junior and was quickly given further responsibility, eventually becoming Manager for Commercial Support Teams across the East Midlands and South Yorkshire. In this role, he led a team of 35 colleagues and navigated significant organisational restructures.

Lincolnshire has always been home for Paul, and he wouldn’t change a thing. He brings not only professional expertise but a deep-rooted, faithful understanding of the communities and parishes that make up our Diocese.

Professional expertise

After much dedicated study, he became an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers. His background has given him a strong appreciation of finance, governance, data, and strategic decision-making.

Even though numbers have always played a major part in his work, Paul has never lost sight of his core belief that the Church’s work is ultimately about people. They are always his number one priority.

Faithful service to the Church, education and community

Alongside his professional career, Paul has given decades of service to the Church. He has been a PCC secretary and treasurer over 40 years at Langton Church and Woodhall Spa Church, and for nearly two decades he has taken on the responsibility of being a Churchwarden.

Paul is a member of the Bishop’s Council, Lay Co‑Lead for East Lindsey, and a committed advocate for parish community life. He recognises that this involvement gives him first-hand insight into the historical and modern-day pressures faced by parishes. It’s an understanding he knows is vital to the position of Chair.

His passion for education is equally evident. Paul has served as a Chair of Governors for over two decades. He is also the Vice Chair of the Horncastle Education Trust and a Director of the Diocesan Board of Education. He is a trustee for several local charities and organisations.

Paul’s hopes as Chair

Paul is really looking forward to contributing positively and visibly as our Chair. He hopes to build trust and understanding across the Diocese, helping everyone to paint a clearer picture of how diocesan finances operate and how decisions are made. He is determined to be as accessible and visible as he can, while also encouraging open conversation.

As he steps into this role, he is excited to get to know the Diocese even better. He wants to meet people from different contexts and hear a wide range of perspectives as the Diocese continues its mission to be faithful, confident, and joyful.

Family life

Paul is married to Joanne, and together they have three children, one a teenager and two in their twenties. He enjoys spending time outdoors, gardening, walking with his Labrador, and travelling, with a particular love for Scotland.

We warmly welcome Paul as the new Chair and look forward to serving alongside him.
